| Working and Living Overseas |
|
It has become almost a write of passage for new graduates to travel overseas, but more and more are deciding to live and work in other countries. The University Graduate Survey found that only 10 percent of graduates don’t want to work overseas. While working overseas has many benefits, both professional and personal, graduates need to make sure they plan their adventure well. Most importantly, you must ensure you have the right to live and work in your chosen country and investigate whether you will need a visa. Many countries offer working holiday schemes, allowing Australian citizens to live and work for a period normally between 1 and 2 years. One of the most popular destinations is the United Kingdom, particularly London. However, on arrival many young Australians are shocked to discover how expensive living costs are. There is a minefield of issues to be considered before your departure – insurance, banking, finding a job, visas, investigating local laws, etc. So make sure you give yourself the time to fully research your chosen destination. The Government has some great advice on what to consider before you catch your flight. In short: plan your trip well, be safe and enjoy your adventure!
