I’m sitting on the train as I’m typing this blog post. Most students are fairly familiar with Public Transport. As someone who only uses public transport to get from point A to B, I have had the pleasure of observing people in several states of demeanour. Some are interesting, some are amusing but mostly the people that travel on public transport can be quite annoying. It is only in the past 6 months or so that I have observed an increase in Transperth employees on the trains and the information booths. This led me to research the Public Transport Authority website which has given me an insight about the current employment situation within the organisation. The employment page offers several categories of job opportunities; Advertised Vacancies and Transit Officers Career Information. They also offer Graduate Programs to students of the following fields;
This range of disciplines is very comprehensive and the program offers a starting salary of ~ $44,000 (plus superannuation) for a 37.5 hour week. This is a very enticing starting package. Further investigation of the website has also revealed that the PTA offers training and career advancement opportunities for their employees. Don’t overlook this excellent opportunity when job hunting. As a side note; I’m very glad to see that there are at least 8 steps that Transit Officers need to pass before qualifying. This includes a physical and psychometric testing, and several other tests that should make anyone think twice before doing something unintelligent while on public transport.
